University–Industry Hand in Hand: KTÜ and TİSAŞ Plan for the Future
Karadeniz Technical University (KTÜ) continues to transfer its academic expertise in knowledge generation and technology development to the defense industry. In this context, a KTÜ delegation visited the facilities of Trabzon Silah Sanayi A.Ş. (TİSAŞ) to evaluate ongoing projects and potential areas for new collaboration.

During the meeting, TİSAŞ officials delivered a comprehensive presentation on the company’s production capacity, laboratory infrastructure, and projects being carried out at its R&D Center. Information was provided on ongoing KTÜ–TİSAŞ joint projects, while potential areas of future cooperation were also discussed.

New Horizons in Collaboration
The agenda included plans for initiatives such as employment opportunities in the defense industry, internship opportunities for students, technical visits, career planning, and events such as “Defense Industry Days.” Particular emphasis was placed on steps that could facilitate students’ integration into the industry through the “TİSAŞ Academy – KTÜ” collaboration model.

Industry Strengthened Through Scientific Solutions
Projects supported by KTÜ academics through their knowledge and expertise include “Extending the Service Life of Components for Small Arms,” “The Effect of Hard Chrome Plating Inside Barrels on Firing Performance,” “The Use of Glass Fiber-Reinforced Composites,” “Multilayer Boriding Treatment,” and “Reducing the Environmental Impact of Pistol Manufacturing.”

In addition, TÜBİTAK-supported projects such as “The Use of High-Entropy Superalloys in Suppressors,” “Surface Enhancement Through Electroless Nickel-Tin Coating,” and “Manufacturing Small Arms Components Through Additive Manufacturing” are among KTÜ’s leading high-value-added contributions to TİSAŞ.

Strong Collaboration Extending from Education to Production
The collaboration, supported by the active employment of KTÜ graduates at TİSAŞ, jointly conducted graduate-level education programs, and co-authored scientific publications, stands out as a strong example of university–industry integration in Türkiye.

As part of this model of university–industry integration, KTÜ graduates are taking active roles at TİSAŞ, while graduate-level educational activities and joint academic publications further strengthen the relationship. In addition, employment opportunities in the defense industry, internship opportunities for students, technical visits, and career planning were also discussed within the framework of the “TİSAŞ Academy – KTÜ” collaboration.
